Did you miss me yesterday? At 4 a.m., before I had time to type my first thought, I heard the sweet voice of my 3-year-old grandson, Ollie:
“Is it wakey time, Aga?” And just like that, Monday began a little differently than planned.
There was no easing into the day—no cup of tea, no quiet Bible time, no moment alone, but… there were snuggles, rocking, and whispered lyrics of “Jesus Loves Me” as big brother, Harry joined our chair, too. We rested that way for about 40 minutes, and then, it was full-speed ahead, and didn’t stop. But even in the fullness, there was beauty, even in the noise, there was grace.
The day ended, the way my favorite Mondays do, with my “Momhood”, a group of women bound not by choice, but by grief. Each of us has experienced the death of a child. It’s a club no one ever wants to join, but one that has become a sanctuary for us all. We eat together, do activities together, laugh together, cry, support, and walk the hard roads… together. It is sacred ground, where pain meets healing and God’s comfort shows up through each other. I am a better person because these women are in my life.
These next couple of weeks promise more busyness:
– A new grandbaby, little August, arriving in just nine days.
– Doctoral work to complete.
– Ministry opportunities to dive into.
– A sermon to prepare and preach this coming Sunday (come join us at New Hope at 9 or 10:30!).
Yes, life is full, but in every moment…from Ollie’s sleepy morning question to those sacred evening moments with fellow moms, I am reminded of this truth:
God is always so, so good.
…even when we’re tired, even when grief lingers, even when calendars are full and we feel pulled in a hundred directions. God is there in the noise, in the quiet, in the laughter and the tears, in the busyness, and in the stillness.
So if I miss a few devotions in the coming days, know this: God is still working, He is still speaking, and He is still good.
Where are you seeing God in your busy days? Pause today, even for a moment, and thank Him for His presence, even in the chaos.
