I didn’t get the rest I hoped for last night, but the first night away from home is typically a little rough for me. I miss the familiarity of home and especially my husband. I was thankful for the reminder, though, as I was tossing and turning, that our Lord never sleeps nor slumbers. I’m confident His grace will carry me through this first day and I will rest well tonight. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.“
We’ve all experienced it: an important day ahead, an exam, a big meeting, a difficult conversation, and the night before, sleep doesn’t come. Maybe it was anxiety, restlessness, too warm, an uncomfortable bed, or circumstances beyond our control. Whatever the reason, we wake up feeling drained, wondering how we’ll make it through.
But here’s the comforting truth: God doesn’t need us to be at 100% for Him to work through us. In fact, He often does His best work in our weakness. When we feel depleted, we’re more likely to lean on Him, and that’s exactly where His strength can shine, when we get out of the way.
Throughout Scripture, we see God use tired, worn-out, and imperfect people to do powerful things. Elijah was exhausted when God fed him and renewed him (1 Kings 19). Paul experienced weakness, yet God reminded him that divine strength is perfected in human frailty.
So today, if you’re running on little sleep, don’t panic. Breathe. Pray. Ask the Lord for strength hour by hour. Let His peace anchor you. You may not feel ready, but He is. Let’s do this!
