“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” — Matthew 7:8 (NIV)
This morning’s YouVersion verse of the day was just what I needed. Maybe someone else does, too.
There are moments in life when an opportunity placed before us requires much more bandwidth than we feel like we can muster. It presses on the heart, stirs the mind, and lingers in the soul. We begin to wonder—is this from God? Or is it a distraction dressed in fancy attire?
In Matthew 7:8, Jesus gives us a beautiful promise in the midst of our uncertainty.

This is not just an invitation to pray. It’s an invitation to persist in prayer, to wrestle in the presence of God, to bring our confusion, our desires, our fear of making the wrong move, and lay all of it honestly before the One who knows our path even when we don’t.
There’s a kind of prayer that doesn’t resolve in five minutes. It lingers. It returns day after day. It’s like Jacob wrestling the angel in Genesis 32… a deep, unrelenting pursuit of God’s direction, even if it leaves us changed in the process… discernment.
Discernment isn’t always about hearing a loud “yes” or “no.” Often, it’s about being transformed in the asking, the seeking, and the knocking. The Lord may not answer us immediately with clarity, but He always answers. We need to be persistent.
If you’re carrying something heavy, an opportunity that might be from God, but you’re unsure, consider today’s verse:
Ask – Bring every angle of what it is you’re facing to God in prayer. Not just your questions, but your emotions too. Let your heart be fully known (He knows it anyway, speak it.)
Seek – Dive into His Word. Ask for godly counsel. Look for how this aligns with God’s character and calling.
Knock – Take small steps of faith. Sometimes discernment comes through motion, not just meditation.
God does not play games with our hearts. If He’s laying something on your heart heavily, God will not leave you to figure it out alone. He invites you to keep coming, to stay in the conversation, and to trust that even in your wrestling, He is working.
If you’re in the middle of this kind of spiritual wrestling, God isn’t just at whatever the correct outcome is. He’ll be with you wherever you end up and He’s with you in the process. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. He promises that He will respond.
And when He does, even if it’s not in the way you expected, it will be right. Because He loves you too much to give you anything less.
