Our Help Comes From The Lord

By

I didn’t think I would write this morning. I found myself unable to sleep at 2 a.m. and searched the Psalms for comfort. In just hours now, we expect the arrival of baby August. Our Megan faces a high-risk surgery after bringing him into the world, and I find the words of Psalm 121 help settle my heart as I pray for the hours ahead.

There is a deep comfort in knowing that God is not asleep to our fear. Verse 3 says, “He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber.” He is not absent from the surgical room. He is not indifferent to our prayers, our tears, or our hopes. He is watching over every heartbeat, both Megan’s and August’s, with the care of a Father who never blinks.

Then, verse 5 says, “The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand.” Even in the brightness of hospital lights and the shadow of uncertainty, the Lord is near. He stands at our right hand. There is no distance between us and His love.

Verse 7 says, “The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life.” That doesn’t always mean the road will be smooth, but it does mean the Lord is sovereign over it.

Today, I trust two precious lives in the hands of the One who made heaven and earth, in the hands that shaped August in the womb, in the hands that are strong enough to save, yet gentle enough to carry us through this very hour and the 24 ahead of us. Today is precious Auggie’s birthday. We’ve been waiting for this day all summer. 🙏
