A Devotion of Thankfulness and Praise

By

This past weekend has been such a reminder to me of the goodness and faithfulness of God. On Saturday, Jeff and I were able to worship and spend time with our Tres Dias community. What a gift it is to have a circle of believers who lift each other up, and encourage, and remind each other of God’s love! That same day, we celebrated Harry’s 6th birthday with our family, rejoicing in the blessing of another year of the smart, funny, and energetic boy he is.

Then, on Sunday, I had the privilege of giving my first sermon at our church since being officially hired in June. It was humbling and joy-filled to open God’s Word with our congregation and sense the Spirit’s presence again so strongly guiding and strengthening me.

Now, as we look ahead to this week, we’re holding close in prayer our daughter Megan and baby August. Thursday is a big day (his delivery and her surgery) and we’re praising God for sustaining them both this far. We ask for prayers that He would continue to cover them in His mercy and protection, that August will arrive safe and healthy, and Megan will have a safe surgery, simpler than we expect. Our God is able.

Through all of this, my heart is overflowing with thankfulness. The Lord has surrounded us with community, family, and church… each one a source of encouragement and strength. Scripture reminds us, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

The people we choose to walk with truly matter, because they point us back to Jesus when we are tired, celebrate with us when we rejoice, and pray with us when we’re in need.

This weekend has given me a much-needed boost of encouragement, and I can only respond with praise:

Praise for His faithful presence in worship.

Praise for the gift of birthday celebrations.

Praise for new opportunities to serve Him.

Praise for the sustaining grace He has already shown Megan and baby August.

As we step into this new week, may we continue to fix our eyes on the Giver of every good gift, offering Him our thanks and praise.
