As the month of August has arrived, the rhythm of life is shifting. Last week, a friend in Tennessee posted that her boys started school. My dear cousins in that beautiful state begin today, too. It seems so early for students and teachers to be stepping back into their classrooms, but here in Illinois, folks are preparing to do the same in the next week or so. This puts a sort of quiet anticipation in the air… a mixture of nerves and excitement, and of course, the hope that this year might be one of growth, grace, and good learning.
This morning, I’m praying over this new beginning. I’ll be sharing more this week about some new things I’m cooking up with my good friend, Cathy, as well as on my own. Our grandson, Harry, is starting kindergarten next Friday. Our daughter, Amy, is beginning a brave adventure this fall of trying some homeschool Pre-K work with Ollie and Eloise. (Of course, the greatest on my heart this morning is the anticipated safe arrival of our newest grandson. Prayers for he and his mommy (our daughter, Megan) today and in the coming days are certainly greatly appreciated.)
As I’m praying for all of this morning, I’m also lifting up every public, private, and home school, each one a place where hearts and minds are being shaped. May the staff and leaders of every school be strengthened with wisdom and integrity. May they lead with compassion, speak with clarity, and carry the weight of responsibility with dignity and peace.

I pray for students, from the little ones just learning to hold a pencil to the teens preparing for adulthood. May this year be filled with curiosity, courage, and community. And may each child know they are seen, valued, and supported.
For adults – parents, grandparents, and lifelong learners – this season is also a call back to order. Summer often pulls us off our usual paths, and that’s okay. Rest matters, too. But now, I find myself craving structure again. I need focus and discipline in my own studies, in my walk with God, and in the work He’s placed in my hands. Friends, there are exciting things coming up this fall! (I can’t wait to share them with you and to see for myself where God is really leading!)
So today, I invite you to pause with me. Take a breath. Ask God to set your pace. To remind you that His mercies are new not only every morning but with every season of life. May we all walk into this school year, whatever our role, with renewed purpose and deeper dependence on Him.
