He Won’t Fail

“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
— 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NIV)

You’ve probably heard the song, Firm Foundation by Cody Carnes. It came out about 4 years ago. We sing it often in worship, and it plays frequently in our home, on our devices, and in our vehicles. I’ve been studying Jesus Christ as our Cornerstone and this song, as well as 1 Corinthians 3:11, came to mind. Firm Foundation has also become an anthem for me as our family is in a season of leaning into our faith and trusting Jesus in the health and safety of our oldest daughter and precious unborn grandson. Take a listen. (Friends, the link didn’t seem to work, so I added the video in the comments.)

Firm Foundation by Cody Carnes

Here’s what I’ve discerned over the past several years. Chaos doesn’t wait for permission. It barges in uninvited… through a diagnosis, a financial struggle, a fractured relationship, or an anxious mind. And yet, in the middle of the noise, these lyrics ring out: “I’ve still got joy in chaos, I’ve got peace that makes no sense.”

How? Not because we’re strong. Not because we’ve figured everything out. But because our foundation isn’t made of our own abilities. “I’m not held by my own strength, ’cause I’ve built my life on Jesus.”

When we build on Christ, the solid Rock, our Cornerstone, we find stability even when everything around us is shaking. His peace doesn’t always make sense by the world’s standards, but it anchors our hearts when fear threatens to overwhelm.

Every line of this song is a declaration against despair. “He’s never let me down, He’s faithful through every season.” That’s not wishful thinking. That’s truth backed by Scripture and the testimony of countless believers before us.

God’s faithfulness doesn’t expire. It endures through every season. That means the fruitful ones and the barren ones, the joyful and the tearful.

So, when doubt whispers, “What if God doesn’t come through this time?” we respond with confidence: “Why would He fail now?”

He won’t.
