God is Working in Ways We Can’t See

By

Sometimes, in our relationships, we feel like we’re pouring ourselves out… into repeated conversations, arguments, prayers, or just trying to do the right thing, and nothing seems to be changing. We’ve talked, prayed, forgiven, apologized, reached out again and again, and still… nothing. No sign of progress. No breakthrough.

After a long period of rebellion and suffering for God’s people, in Isaiah 55, we read a powerful invitation from God for the people to come to Him for spiritual nourishment and life. If you haven’t read Isaiah 55 for a while (or ever) I recommend you read it this weekend. The chapter is a short 13 verses. It begins with a call to “come, all you who are thirsty,” offering spiritual food and drink (salvation and grace) without cost.

Isaiah 55 emphasizes that God’s ways and thoughts are higher than human understanding, showing His mercy and the power of His Word. Like rain brings life to the earth, God’s Word will accomplish His purpose.

The chapter ends with a promise of joy, peace, and restoration for those who respond to God’s call. I want to point out verses 10 and 11, where it reads, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Do you see that? God’s Word never returns void. Just like rain soaks into the earth and brings unseen life to buried seeds, God is working beneath the surface of our circumstances. The Holy Spirit moves in places we can’t see, and in hearts we can’t reach. The same way seeds begin to sprout underground – hidden, silent, unnoticed – God is at work even when you feel stuck, exhausted, or unsure what more to give.

God doesn’t waste your effort. Your kindness isn’t in vain. Your prayers aren’t unheard. Even your silence, when unspoken with love, can be used by God.

When we hit the end of ourselves, we can take comfort in this truth: we are not at the end of what God can do. Hallelujah!

So don’t lose heart. Keep sowing seeds in faith. Keep speaking truth in love. Keep showing up with grace. The growth may be slow, even invisible, but it’s real. And in time, by God’s design, something beautiful will break through.

As we wrap up this week’s relationship series, may you carry these truths with you:

1. You are not anyone’s Savior, Jesus is. True transformation comes from God alone, and salvation is the Lord’s work. No one is ever too far for God’s hand to save.

2. Faithfulness matters more than fruitfulness. Your faithfulness is never wasted, even when the fruit is slow to appear. Our labor in the Lord is never in vain. God calls us to plant the seeds, but not necessarily to see the harvest (and this is hard to acknowledge sometimes).

3. Establishing healthy boundaries in grace and truth is faithful work. Boundaries shouldn’t be walls to shut others out, but gates that allow us to choose who we let in. We can create space from others (when we need it) without closing our hearts.

4. And even when you can’t see it, God is always working. Relationships can be hard and holy places, where we learn to love like Christ… maybe not perfectly, but persistently. So keep trusting, keep praying, and keep walking in grace and truth. You are not alone, and God is not done.🥰
