When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. – Proverbs 3:24
Is it just me? There are nights when no matter how tired my body feels, my mind won’t quiet. My thoughts race… what if? What about? Why, Lord? Fear, anxiety, worry… whatever, it can flood my mind and suddenly the dark feels really heavy. I lie there, eyes open wide, staring at the ceiling, wishing peace would find me.
Even those who deeply trust God are not immune to these moments. I just talked with a friend about this yesterday, as if the Holy Spirit was preparing me, giving me a reminder. We love God. We believe God’s promises. But the enemy is persistent, especially in the silence of night. Scripture tells us that Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44), and one of his favorite tactics is to whisper untruths when we are vulnerable, things like, “God’s forgotten you, you’re alone in this, or things won’t get better.”
But friends, we don’t have to accept those lies.
We fight them with grace and truth.
Truth, because God’s Word is stronger than fear. It reminds us who He is and who we are in Him. When the enemy says we are alone, truth says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). When fear says nothing will change, truth says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14).

And grace, because God is not angry when we struggle. He doesn’t shame us for our sleeplessness or scold us for our anxiety. He meets us in it. God’s grace is our invitation to come, even in the middle of the night, and lay our burdens before Him. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).
So when sleep won’t come and your heart is heavy, reach for the Word instead of replaying your worries. Speak His promises aloud. Write them down. Whisper them in the dark. You may still wrestle through the night, but you won’t wrestle alone. And in that quiet battle, your faith will grow, and peace will return.
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” – Isaiah 26:3
