Wholly Healthy – God’s Design for Every Part of Us

By

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

When we think of health, we often picture diet plans, exercise, or the latest mental wellness trends. But God’s design for us reaches deeper and wider. He created us as whole beings… spirit, soul, and body, and He cares about every part of us.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 reminds us that God desires our full sanctification, not just spiritually, but mentally and physically as well. It’s easy to compartmentalize our health into separate categories, but in God’s eyes, they are beautifully interconnected. When one area suffers, the others often do, too.

Spiritual dryness can leave us mentally drained. Physical illness can wear down our spiritual resilience. Emotional unrest can disrupt our ability to hear from God. That’s why holistic health, honoring all that God made us to be, is not just important. It’s essential.

For the remainder of this week, I’d like to take one day each to focus on the significance of each area of health: spiritual, physical, and mental. Not to aim for perfection, but alignment, learning to care for ourselves in ways that glorify God and draw us closer to Him.

As I’ve been focusing on getting these areas of my own life into better alignment, I’ve been asking myself a few questions. Maybe these will help you get some understanding of where you’re at, too.

  • Which area of health do I tend to prioritize most? Which one do I often neglect?
  • How have I seen the connection between spiritual, physical, and mental health in my own life?
  • What is one small step I can take this week to honor God with my whole being?

Let’s close today with a prayer and we’ll return tomorrow to consider our spiritual health and well-being. ♥️

Lord, thank You for creating us in Your image, wonderfully complex and whole. Help us to care for every part of who we are in a way that honors You. Teach us how to live in balance, not from our own strength, but through Your Spirit. Prepare our hearts for this journey and show us where You want to bring healing and growth. Amen.

I know my spiritual health is suffering. I crave more of what God wants for me!
