Junior Kindergarten Graduation

By

Last night, I had the joy and privilege of watching my grandson Harry graduate from junior kindergarten. His class marched across the stage in their tiny caps and gowns, proudly spelling words, counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, and singing songs with bright smiles and bold voices. My heart swelled with pride, and a couple of tears trickled down my cheeks, with the tender realization of how quickly time moves forward.

Seasons change. Children grow. Life keeps shifting around us. I’m pretty sure what Harry learned in junior kindergarten, I didn’t know until finishing 1st grade, at least. We didn’t have junior kindergarten in the 1970’s or celebrate milestones like kindergarten or pre-K graduations. One thing I do know, I sure treasure these moments, knowing how quickly they pass.

And yet, in the middle of all this change, one thing remains the same: God never changes.

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Malachi 3:6 declares, “I the Lord do not change.”

These verses remind us that while everything around us may shift, grow, or fade, God remains constant. His love, His promises, His presence are unchanging and eternal. When we feel unsteady amid life’s transitions, we can anchor ourselves in the rock-solid truth that our God is faithful and unmovable.

So today, I thank God for the gift of change and for growing grandkids, for moments that mark time, for songs sung proudly by five-year-olds. But even more, I thank Him for being the God who never changes, the One who holds us all, from the smallest graduate to the oldest grandparent (who isn’t me, yet), in His unchanging hands.
