Today’s verse of the day in my Bible app is Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” It reminded me of a recent conversation I had with someone and it got me to thinking how often this topic comes up.
Being a Christian is not just about one moment in time… just making a decision, and it’s done. It’s about a lifelong transformation. This verse in Ephesians reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, intentionally created in Christ for a purpose far greater than our own plans. When we come to Christ, everything changes, not just our eternal destination, but our daily direction.
As we grow in our faith, we begin to see that what we desire, the choices we make, and our values are being reshaped to reflect Christ’s character. Where we once pursued things that pleased ourselves or the world, we now, as Christians, long to please God. It’s not about checking boxes of good behavior but about living in alignment with who we are in Christ.
We each are uniquely shaped for the good works He has already prepared for us. This change touches every aspect of our lives:
- In our relationships, we seek to love as Christ loves.
- In our work, we aim to serve with integrity and excellence.
- In our struggles, we lean on grace rather than pride.
- In our daily decisions, we seek wisdom over impulse.
The more we walk with Jesus, the more we recognize the beauty in becoming less like the world and more like Him. As we surrender to what God has in store for us, we step into the life we were always meant to live. This is the life where joy abounds even when struggles come our way. It isn’t a Pollyanna-version of life, but a life where we can experience a peace that passes all understanding and a trust in knowing that the God of the valley is the God of the mountain.
If we’re not moving toward Christ, if there’s no change, no desire to live differently, then it’s time to examine our hearts. Are we truly following Him, or are we just admiring Him from a distance? The Christian life is not passive. It’s a daily walk, a daily surrender. God has already prepared good works for us. Our job is to walk in them.
Take an honest look at your walk with Christ. Are you moving toward Him? If not, what’s holding you back? Surrender it today, and ask God to reignite your desire to grow and live with purpose. God loves you and so do I.
